Throughout the ’90s, research and innovation
in product design and customer service helped
Frankenmuth Mutual continue to thrive, while
continued investment in automation kept
improving efficiencies. A $14 million expansion
of the home office was completed in 1994 to
make room for the growing company. By the
end of 1995, the company had direct written
premiums exceeding $150 million, and in
the late 1990s, the company began writing
insurance policies in Illinois and Virginia.
The expansion of the home office wasn’t
enough to keep pace with the company’s
rapid growth. So, in 1998, Frankenmuth
Mutual bought the First of America Bank
building on Main Street, renovated it,
and made it the new home of the Claims
1999—The former
Department in 1999. Also in 1999, two wholly owned subsidiaries First of America
Bank building on
were formed to help the company expand into new states: Main Street became
the home of the
Ansur America Insurance Company and Fortuity Insurance Claims Department.
Company. ASure Worldwide Insurance Company was added in
2002 to continue the geographic expansion.
